The free Algarve dining pack
Everything Quilo knows, pulled together so you can skim it on the plane and use it at the table. It is free, it stays free, and there is nothing to unlock — every part of it is a page on this site that works offline after your first visit.
What the pack is
Three tools and one habit: know where the tourist-facing strips are, have the phrases ready, and see the weight and the total before the fish hits the grill.
What you get
- Trap geography for the Algarve. Not a name-and-shame list — the street-level pattern. Where the tourist-facing strips are in Albufeira, Praia da Rocha, Faro, Vilamoura, Lagos and Olhão, the red flags that work anywhere, and the two-streets-back move that fixes most of it.
- The at-the-table phrases. Weigh-and-confirm, decline the couvert, ask for tap water, check whether the kitchen is still taking orders — each in Portuguese, Spanish and English, big enough to show the waiter.
- The fish calculator. Type the €/kg from the board and see the real euros for your table before you order. Presets for one, two or four people, plus species notes for the exceptions like sardines and cataplana.
- The bill checker. When the bill lands, put the board price and the printed weight back together and see whether the fish line matches — with a polite way to ask if it doesn't.
How to use it at the table
- Before you sit down: skim the trap geography for the town you are in. If you are on the photographed strip, consider the streets behind it.
- Before you order fish: find the €/kg on the board and run it through the calculator. If there is no €/kg on the board, ask for it — that is the phrase card “weigh it and confirm the price”.
- At the weigh-in: the calculator hands its numbers to the phrases page, so the confirm-the-total script arrives pre-filled with your own figures.
- When the bill comes: the bill checker tells you what the fish line should have been. Small gaps are rounding; the point is knowing which kind of gap you are looking at.
Per-kilo pricing is the honest local system, not a scam — the pack exists so the maths is never a surprise, not because anyone is out to get you.
