Why guests come back from dinner grumpy
Whole fish in Portugal is priced per kilo of raw weight. It is the honest local system — but a visitor reads “robalo 58€/kg” as a €22-ish dish, orders the big one, and meets a €70 fish line at the end of the night. Add the couvert (the bread and olives that arrive unasked and are charged if touched) and you get the classic one-star-review evening: nobody cheated, two pricing cultures just talked past each other. Guests rarely blame the restaurant alone; the whole holiday — and sometimes the host's restaurant tips — takes the hit.
